Percussion and turntables are two instruments at the very root of how music is created, felt and passed on. 1987 is what happens when you bring the best of both into the same room.
Based in Barcelona, HOSS & SWET bring together HOSS BENÍTEZ — one of the most sought-after drummers in the contemporary scene — and SWET, a national turntablism champion who still wields vinyl as a living instrument. Before joining forces, both spent years touring and recording internationally alongside artists including Nathy Peluso, Mala Rodríguez, Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso, Rels B, Cruz Cafuné, Dano and Braxton Cook.
1987 is their first joint project — and it doesn't chase algorithms or playlists. It's a record made for those who still listen with an open chest. Breaks, scratches and textures rooted in the tradition of Dilla, Madlib, Chris Dave and Georgia Anne Muldrow, but with a sound that could only exist now.
Not an album.
A statement.
